About color data: where the yarn colors come from
About color data
The brand palettes in the stitch chart editor's yarn picker come from one source:
Yarn colorways from temperature-blanket.com, CC BY 4.0. The Yarn Colorways data set published by temperature-blanket.com is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. It lists the color names of about 85 yarn brands and 270 yarn lines, with an approximate screen color for each. It does not include brand color numbers.
What NodeStitch changed
The data ships inside the software as one file, built from the source's published files. The changes are:
- It was reorganized into one file grouped by brand and yarn line, keeping each line's source site and access date.
- Yarn weights were spelled out (the source uses short ids).
- A colorway whose name repeats an earlier one in the same line was dropped, so each name is listed once.
- Hex values were written in lowercase. No hex value was changed.
Four yarn lines in the source are marked as no longer having a source page online. The picker leaves them out of search unless you tick Include lines whose source page has gone offline.
NodeStitch never reads a brand's website or any live service for colors, and nothing is copied from other chart tools. Yarns you add under My yarns are yours and are stored only in your account.
Screen colors are approximate
Screen colors are approximate. Buy by color name and number. A hex value is a third party's estimate of a dyed fiber as it appears on one screen; real yarn will look different. Where NodeStitch shows a brand color it says so, and the legend of a chart that uses one carries the credit line.
Brand and color names are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify products. No endorsement is implied.
Where to buy links
For some yarn lines the picker, a palette entry's menu and the Yarn tab show a Where to buy link to the retailer's own page for that yarn: Yarnspirations for Bernat, Caron, Red Heart, Patons and Lily Sugar'n Cream, and Rowan for Rowan. These are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the retailer pays NodeStitch a small commission, at no extra cost to you, and that is said beside every link. The link carries nothing about you or your chart. Clicking it takes you to the retailer's site, where the affiliate network and the retailer set their own cookies, as the privacy policy explains. The colors and color names are the same whether a line has a link or not, and no brand pays to be in the picker.
Report a wrong color
If a color looks wrong, use Report a wrong color in the yarn picker or in a palette entry's menu, or email support@nodestitch.app with the brand, line and color name and what it should be closer to. Corrections are made in the bundled file, and the list above will say so if a published value is ever adjusted.
