Adding page numbers

Click Page numbers at the bottom of the editor, next to the zoom buttons, tick Show page numbers, and click Apply. Every page of the project is numbered at once, on the page and in your PDF, in exactly the same place.

Choosing how they look

  • Position: top or bottom, left, center or right. Bottom center is the default.
  • Style: 3, Page 3, or Page 3 of 8.
  • Start at: the number the first page counts as.
  • No number on the first page: on by default, for a cover page. The first page is still counted, so the second page shows 2, as in Word.
  • No number on the last page: for a back cover or a notes page. It is still counted, so "Page 3 of 8" still says 8.
  • Font, size (in points) and color: 9 pt gray to begin with, in the font you are using when you first open the window.

Nothing changes until you click Apply, which numbers the pages and confirms it with a message. Cancel, the × or Esc close the window and leave everything as it was.

Good to know

  • The numbers keep up by themselves: add, delete, duplicate or reorder pages, or let a Pattern Box run onto a new page, and every page shows its right number.
  • A page number cannot be clicked, moved or deleted on the page. Change it, or turn it off (untick Show page numbers and click Apply), in Page numbers. Turned off, your choices are kept: tick Show page numbers again and they come back.
  • It sits in the page margin. If something on the page reaches into that spot, the number still prints there, on top, so leave the margin clear.
  • In a PDF from a free account, a number set to bottom right sits a little higher, above the "Made with NodeStitch" mark in that corner.
  • The page thumbnails at the bottom do not show the numbers.
